Bozena Zawisz, author of ‘Liberating Inner Eve, A Reflective Journey For Women’, has been named as a winner in the ‘50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ Book Awards Contest. Her honor came as a result of her appearance on The Authors Show. Bozena was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process. ‘Liberating Inner Eve, A Reflective Journey For Women’ helps readers find a sense of personal strength, high self-worth, love, and acceptance.

"I am so grateful for being able to take part in the Author’s Show “50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading” competition, and be amongst the 50 winners," Zawisz said.

"I hope that winning this competition will help me to further awareness about the many barriers/restrictions that I continue to stumble across in my counseling work, that restrict women from experiencing a sense of connection with themselves and high levels of self-worth. In my book “Liberating Inner Eve” I offer psychological guidance grounded in my two decades of counseling experience and theology, to support women in being aware of these social/historic barriers/restrictions and nourish a deep experience of self-love and personal strength."

"Liberating Inner Eve" offers psychological insight around the impact of commonly found interpretations of the teachings of the Old Testament (in particular the Genesis account of Adam and Eve) and New Testament (the lifetime of Jesus), on various themes relevant to women's daily lives, such as how they experience their identity, self-acceptance, and self-worth. Every chapter of the book includes simple exercises, encouraging readers to take time to review their thoughts and feelings, relating to a particular topic.

‘Liberating Inner Eve’ has received a large number of rave reviews. A recent Amazon review stated, "Wisdom from a compassionate counselor and guide, this book is highly recommended for women who need to just BE!" Another said, "I found the writing so engaging that it pulled me word for word, paragraph by paragraph. I also loved the fact that I can 100% relate to what the book teaches. And the fact that it also includes simple exercises to make me feel knowledgeable about the Bible teachings, it’s an overall amazing guidebook. I believe this book can really help women to literally liberate themselves. The concept was deep and beautiful and the prose was thoughtful. I would recommend this book in an instant!"

Author Virginia Sollars Believes The Need For Kindness Extends Beyond The Holiday Season

Sollars' latest book, 'And Some Will Triumph', is a heartbreaking and riveting look into correctional mental health, from the perspective of a compassionate nurse, that holds exciting potential for increasing awareness through print and film media

The Holidays are the time of year when we collectively attempt to be a bit more forgiving and little less judgmental perhaps. However the Holiday season is not the only time of year for kind words and good deeds. Judging from the headlines we see day after day, it might be important for all of us to stop and reflect on the importance of kindness, not only during the Holidays but all year long. While some might believe kindness is a weakness, it is instead a sign of real courage, demonstrating that we respect and honor each other, regardless of station in life or status. Virginia Sollars, author of 'And Some Will Triumph', issued a statement that is both timeless in content and urgent in regards to its core message.

"A little bit of kindness goes a long way - it can make someone’s day," Sollars stated. "A smile, or a friendly hello might bring a smile to someone’s face and make them feel as if the world is not a lonely place. Helping an elder across the street, or complimenting them on how well they look might make their day. Remember, it may be difficult for them to do things we take for granted. Do you have a neighbor that can use a hand? It may just take fifteen minutes of your time to find out, and the feeling of helping someone can increase your own feelings of self worth. It can make you feel powerful. I always feel better when I’ve helped someone. It gets me out of my own head and problems for a while. I use to work with a friend who would take all her old blankets and search for the homeless. Imagine their surprise when she handed them something to keep them warm, how her kindness helped them."

The full statement is available at her website at http://www.virginiasollars.net.

Sollars' book, 'And Some Will Triumph', relates the journey of Elizabeth, a compassionate nurse who comes to California from New York with her teenage daughter to work at the fictional Raine Correctional Facility. Elizabeth finds herself interacting with some of society’s most troubled and challenging inmates and shows how she must at times fight the system to give the best care to her patients. Elizabeth tells the stories of both the psychiatric inmates as well as the nurses who have problems in their lives as well.  Since the book is based on my professional experience, it is an insider’s look into the minds of psychiatric inmates revealing their secrets, regrets, frustrations and hopes and how they cope with their life in jail. But my book is more than just the story. It explains the many mental health disorders in such a way that people without a medical background can understand, points out the broken mental health system and describes the reasons why the mentally ill are incarcerated."

"I believe my book has great potential for a television series or a movie," Sollars said, "My book is very informative, it is written in such a way that everyone will finally understand what is means to be burdened with a psychiatric disorder, how the thought process is so different from ours and how it sometimes leads to involvement with law enforcement. My book is so different from any undertaking that has been taken before, its potential is great and I think that people will be amazed at what I have to say. I just need the right people to believe in me to get the word out. I know my book can make a difference. "

Sollars' book has received rave reviews from readers. Kirkus Reviews said the book is ….” a remarkable timeline of the treatment of mental illness in the past 40 years, and it’s a triumphant account of her boldness as a mother, nurse, and woman. At a time when mental health is in the forefront of conversations about our health care system, her story is one of hope."

One reader stated, "Absolutely the best book I’ve read in years, uncensored look into correctional mental health, patients, inmates and the professionals who deal with some of society’s most troubled criminals, their day to day struggles all interwoven within a gripping story of murder and suspense. A must read!" Another said, "Awesome story! While the story keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next, the real plight of the mental health patients in a correctional setting is heartbreaking.”

Virginia Sollars is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at virginiasollars@yahoo.com. 'And Some Will Triumph' is available at online retailers. More information is available at her website at http://www.virginiasollars.net.

A New Perspective On The Role Of Women In Society - GUTSY: How Women Leaders Make Change By Award Winning Author Sylvia Lafair

Sylvia Lafair is the founder of Creative Energy Options (CEOinc), a global business consulting firm and the world’s leading authority in Pattern Breakthrough Leadership Development, a Top Global Leadership Guru and award-winning author

The headlines in 2017 have been filled with story after story about how the role of women in Western society has dramatically changed for the better. From politics to entertainment and everything in between, we have watched history unfold as women have stopped asking for equality and instead have taken charge, stepping into leadership roles across all segments of our society. Women no longer talk about change, hope for change or ask permission to change - they instead make change.

Multi-award winning author Sylvia Lafair has written the book on what it takes for women to speak out, take risks, and stand at the leading edge of change. Entitled 'GUTSY', it is the playbook for women in 2018 and beyond. Readers will learn to Observe and Understand behaviors that have stood in the way of true collaboration, and Transform into the world of outstanding partnership (OUT). From exploring models of being gutsy, to what it means to have a pink or blue blanket, her wildly entertaining book gives readers the map to build a future completely unlike the past.

"Women today can, as I often say, 'clear the past to free the future' by standing on the shoulders of Gutsy women such as Abigail Adams, Katharine Hepburn, Arianna Huffington and Sheryl Sandberg," Lafair stated. "I strongly believe that we are at a tipping point, as my book shows, to redesign relationships between men and women for the benefit of all of us."

'Gutsy: How Woman Leaders Make Change' has received eight major industry awards including best business book at the San Francisco Book Festival (2012), The Southwest Book Festival (2013) and the Paris Book Festival (2013).

Lafair appeared on the Today show with Kathie Lee and Hoda to discuss effective use of the slower vacation months of summer to prepare for requesting a promotion in the fall - by being clear and direct rather than waiting to be asked.

She was given an award as one of the top 25 Women in Business by the NEPA Business Journal and The National Association of Women Business Owners for her mentoring to help women move beyond being pleasers to become truth tellers. She explores how to breakthrough outdated patterns learned in childhood that no longer support positive growth in the workplace.

'Gutsy: How Women Leaders Make Change' has received high praise from industry leaders of every kind across the USA:

“This book hits the spot for every business woman, actually every woman. It helped me rethink, reclaim, and reinvent my priorities for work and home. I am stronger and more willing to take a stand for what I believe in and not hold back.”
Joanne LaMarca, TV Producer, Today

“I bought the book for my wife and out of curiosity started to read. She didn’t get it till I was finished. I truly understand her better. Even more, I communicate differently at work and big dividend, I can be a stronger ally in helping my daughter grow into a strong woman.”
Mark Siegel, Sr. Vice President , MJC Corp.

“GUTSY, the book and the workshop were life changers for me. I am more able to speak out sooner and encourage my staff to be better truth tellers so issues don’t fester. The world has changed and the world of playing it safe and being pleasers, the one I inherited from my mother, no longer works. I suggest males as well as females read this eye- opening book.”
Yvonne Cangelosi, President at SPEX CertiPrep Group Companies

“Being in the beauty industry, I am surrounded by creative females every day. However, there is still a tendency to hold back and once my staff began applying the concepts they learned from GUTSY, relationships became more conflict free and more effective. The good news is they took what they learned from the book and workshop and brought it home. A double win.”
Debra Neill Baker, CEO, Neill Corporation

The success of 'Gutsy' resulted in the development of Gutsy Weekends, now offered through Lafair's company, Creative Energy Options Inc. The workshops offer women usable and unique insights that blend knowledge from business and psychology.  It’s a weekend that includes active participation experience – edutainment that uses film, story, music, art and the peacefulness of being in nature to awaken new ideas and possibilities. This will be available as an on-line program in 2018. Women from all walks of life  can share key concepts about their own personal roles as a leader at work, at home - everywhere.

Author Sylvia Lafair is the CEO of Creative Energy Options Inc. (CEOinc), a firm that challenges the status quo of workplace relationships. The key is that as women become more daring men can learn to become more caring and the formula for success is: Daring + Caring = Sharing.

Over the past 30 years their team has searched for the hidden emotional mechanisms at work in a typical office environment. The discovery of why people respond the way they do has profoundly changed the way the company thinks, coaches, consults and develops programs. They believe there is a series of patterns that underlie behavior and has been a missing link in understanding the core of office politics, absenteeism, law suits and poor productivity.

The company's Pattern Breakthrough process, not found in any other coaching or programs, is what enables them to prepare clients to transcend business frustrations. The company continues to win awards for Pattern Breakthrough Coaching and Total Leadership Connections.

Lafair is an innovative thought leader who has worked with McGraw-Hill, Avon, Google, Lockheed Martin, Merck, Microsoft, Novartis, and many other globally recognized companies.

The Best Christmas Gift For Bosses - Multi-Awarding Winning Book, 'Don't Bring It To Work' By Sylvia Lafair

Sylvia Lafair is the founder of Creative Energy Options and the world’s leading authority in Pattern Breakthrough Leadership Development, a Top Global Leadership Guru and award-winning author

Choosing the right gift for the boss can be a monumental challenge. It's one of those problems we struggle with for days or weeks perhaps. The problem can be easily solved by making the wise choice - a gift that will make the boss's job easier. Sylvia Lafair's multi-award winning business book, 'Don't Bring It To Work', may not only be the perfect Christmas gift for your boss, manager or coworker - it might end up being the catalyst that transforms your entire workplace.

We all know the type--maybe he's the office cutup, or the woman who manages to look busy but avoids work, or the guy who is the long-suffering victim--there's one in every office. These behaviors are painfully annoying and stir up conflict in the office.

How can you get to the bottom of workplace behaviors that simply don't work for you or your organization?

'Don't Bring It to Work' explores what happens when patterns and habits originally created to cope with family conflicts are unleashed in the workplace. This groundbreaking book draws on the success of Sylvia Lafair's Pattern Breakthrough program Total Leadership Connections. Throughout the book Lafair shows how to break the cycle of pattern repetition and offers the tools that can turn unhealthy family baggage into creative energy that will foster better workplace associations and career success.

Lafair identifies the thirteen most common patterns that correspond to characters familiar to anyone who has ever worked in an office: Super Achiever, Rebel, Persecutor, Victim, Rescuer, Clown, Martyr, Splitter, Procrastinator, Drama Queen or King, Pleaser, Denier, and Avoider. To help overcome destructive behavior problems, she maps out the three main steps for becoming aware of patterns and finding the way OUT:

Observe your behavior to discern underlying patterns
Understand and probe deeper to discover the origins of these patterns
Transform your behavior by taking action to change

The book includes a wealth of real-life anecdotes and practical, workbook-style exercises that clearly show how anyone can get beyond old, outmoded attempts at conflict resolution and empower themselves to make profound differences both at work and in their personal lives.

'Don't Bring It To Work' has taken a large number of high level industry awards. Geoffrey James with Inc.com placed it on a list of '9 Books Every Boss Should Read'. It was named a Best Book in the Business and Leadership Category by Nautilus Books and took awards from the London Book Festival and from the Paris Book Festival in 2012.

The book has garnered high praise from industry leaders across the entire business spectrum:

“Sylvia Lafair is an amazingly acute analyzer of human behavior. She’s pinpointed the patterns that can make you sink, soar, or simply muddle through your career. If you want to take your work life, your team, or your company to the next level – or better yet – the level beyond that, read this important book. The payoff is the elusive breakthrough you’ve sought for years.” -- Tyler Mathisen, CNBC co-host of Power Lunch and Nightly Business Report

“In this smart, useful and much needed book on how to work and play well with others, Sylvia Lafair teaches us how to recognize and change our own ineffective behavior and how to help others get past the family baggage and office politics that prevent all of us from doing our best work.” -- Daniel Pink, author of books about work management that include “A Whole New Mind” and “Drive”

"This book is emotionally engaging and the message is fantastic."-- Robert Sutton, Professor of Management Science and Engineering, Stanford University

"This engaging book has a powerful core message. We’re bringing family dynamics – from childhood and even from our parents’ childhoods – to work. – and the results are not pretty. Packed with stories of workplace dynamics gone awry – and, then, amazingly enough, transformed by Lafair’s compassionate approach – the book is immensely readable. You will be motivated to create change for the better." -- Amy Edmondson, Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management, Harvard Business School, Harvard University

"This book distills various behavior patterns that we have at work and helps you identify negative patterns and takes you through personal transformation. Every leader and manager should read this book! Wow! It’s wonderful." -- Nancy Duarte, CEO of Duarte Design, Author, "slide:ology"

"Wonderful insights for anyone who manages a business, works in a business, or leads a business. Read it now." -- Michael E. Gerber, Author, "The E-Myth Books"

Leadership Is Defined By Values In Politics, Sports Or Business Says Keynote Speaker And Leadership Training Expert Rocky Romanella, Senior Partner Of 3SIXTY Management Services

A highly sought keynote speaker and trainer, Romanella is founder and principal of 3SIXTY Management Services, LLC. He has over 40 years of leadership at Fortune 100's and most recently served as Chief Executive Officer and Director for UniTek Global Services, after retiring from a 36-year career with UPS.

Thousands of books have been written on the subject of leadership. Keynote speakers on the subject number in the tens of thousands. Leadership is something that greatly concerns us all. Whether it's business, government or any other type of organization, leaders set the tone of any organization or group from the top down.

Leaders are not only found in business or government however. Personal leadership styles will affect spouses, children, students or anybody else within a particular sphere of influence. While leadership (good or bad) is a primary focal point for most of us, there is another concept that supersedes any leadership style or strategy.

Values.

Without a strong set of values, the best leadership strategy can go awry. With a good value structure in place, the worst leadership approach can right itself and eventually lead to the desired outcome.

Rocky Romanella is a successful keynote speaker and author of a cutting edge book on leadership entitled 'Tighten The Lug Nuts'. He puts values front and center and demonstrates why our core values should underlay everything we attempt, regardless of the roles we play.

"Values are all about people and managing acceptable behavior," Romanella stated. "The truth is you’re going to have to work at whatever it is you hope to achieve in your life. But, it’s how you face it that speaks to your character.

"Your true character is defined by your honesty of purpose. Your purpose is sacred and authentic. Honesty is what’s at the core of your moral character. It’s being trustworthy, loyal, fair, sincere and true, even when it is difficult to be. It is not only how you create your values, but also how you add value to the lives of others.

"It starts with creating a strong value system, which then must relate to your personal or professional mission and vision. Your personal brand.  It must be a guide for all you do. It must align with your personal value system.

"In business, it should start with the people you recruit and hire, in your personal life it may be the people you choose to associate with as friends, business partners and acquaintances."

A winner of the UPS Chairman’s Award for Excellence, Romanella is an energetic keynote speaker and trainer with a legacy of motivating teams to achieve their best. He pulls in audiences with real life stories from an illustrious career spanning nearly 40 years at one of the most recognized and admired brands in the world, UPS and later as CEO & Director for UniTek Global Services, a mid-cap telecommunications solution company. Author Joseph Ganci Named As One Of ‘50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ In 2017 Book Awards

Ganci was picked from a field of hundreds of authors. His book, entitled ‘Gideon The Sound And The Glory,’ is a revelatory spiritual book that offers a penetrating vision of long-held Bible mysteries

Author Joseph Ganci has been named as a finalist in the ‘50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ Book Awards. He is the author of ‘Gideon The Sound And The Glory,.’ Ganci was chosen from a field of authors through a public voting process.

"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, meaning foundation of peace. David conquers Jerusalem and makes it his capital, and so too the capital of Israel. David is drawn to the place and pitches a tent to house The Ark of the covenant. The Ark and the shelter known as David’s booth patiently await his son Solomon to the build, a house of cedar and stone, for a permanent home for God.

"Set apart are humble passions, divine in black and white. It is the blending of the two that yield the enlightening vapor of angelic understandings.

"Thank you for the precious gift of acknowledgment," Ganci stated

In this compelling new book, Ganci pierces the veil with a penetrating vision of long-held Bible mysteries that are far and away daring and unusual. He works within a framework of an engaging and dramatized fiction that, while exceedingly rich in detail, remains faithful to uphold spiritual principles. He bases his work on three primary pillars:

The rock-solid cornerstone is biblical history and geography.
The creative arch is revelatory in its timing and issues.
The research is concrete, firmly rooted in customs, languages, and traditions.

The result is that book lovers are transported into the very midst of ancient conflicts and come away with an entirely fresh perspective on mystical teachings found in scripture, now living lessons filled with adventure that inspires wonder yet remain practical answering the challenges of everyday life.

'Gideon: The Sound and the Glory' has received rave reviews from readers and reviewers alike. A recent reviewer stated, "Joseph Ganci’s prose is arresting, peppered with fantastic imagery and succinct descriptions of plot, characters, and setting. The themes remain masterfully recreated. Ganci stitches together the storyline in a way that allows the reader to enjoy both the inspiration and the accompanying action. The book explores compelling spiritual and political subjects, capturing the conflicts and the dynamics of life within the community of God's chosen people. Gideon: The Sound and the Glory will appeal to fans of political thrillers, adventure, and conflict-driven stories laced with intense action." Other reviewers have used phrases such as "riveting," "amazing" "deftly crafted" and "highly recommended."

‘Gideon The Sound And The Glory,’ will be available as a free download on Amazon as part of a Book Butterfly and Freebooksy promotion - from December 13 through December 17, 2017

Ganci has also announced he will make his book available as a fundraising tool for like-minded associations and charities. Donors can receive an eBook version of 'Gideon' in exchange for a donation to a worthy cause. For more details, contact Joseph via email.

How Harassment In The Workplace Can Be Stopped Now - Award Winning Author Sylvia Lafair's 3 Point Strategy

Sylvia Lafair is the founder of Creative Energy Options and the world’s leading authority in Pattern Aware Leadership Development, a Top Global Leadership Guru and award-winning author of 'Don’t Bring It To Work'.

In a recent Inc.com article Sylvia Lafair, award winning author and President of Creative Energy Options, outlined a 3-point strategy to stop harassment at work once and for all.

The number of high profile celebrities involved in scandals - including Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Bill O'Reilly, Kevin Spacey and many others - continues to grow almost daily. While we hear about celebrity harassment in the news of course, we hear far less about the ongoing harassment that occurs in businesses all over the US and the rest of the world every day. We really don't need more gossip. What we need are solutions that work.

In the Inc. article, Lafair laid out a 3-part strategy represented by the acronym OUT - Observe, Understand and Transform.

In the article she stated in part:

"Adult relationships take work, lots of work. So, you have every right to raise an eyebrow in disbelief when I say stopping harassment is simple.

"Stay with me.

"It's about NO MORE JUBLA. (More on JUBLA later)

"Let me explain. Actually, let me let JAY Z explain.

"In a recent New York Times article, the famed rapper-businessman talked about therapy and getting to know himself from the inside out.

"His openness and honesty about being unfaithful in his marriage to Beyonce is a powerful example of a man able to get at observation of his behavior, understand its roots and then transform his actions to a more positive way.

"The way OUT of old outdated behavior: Observe, Understand and Transform.

"Leaders who use the OUT Technique set the stage for their colleagues and employees, all who look up to them, to also want to get OUT of old ways of thinking and acting.

"In JAY Z's words "The most important thing I got (from therapy) is that everything is connected. Every emotion is connected, and it comes from somewhere. And just being aware of it. Being aware of it in everyday life puts you at such a ... you're at such an advantage. You know, you realize that if someone's racist toward you, it ain't about you. It's about their upbringing and what happened to them, and how that led them to this point. You know, most bullies bully. It just happens. 'Oh, you got bullied as a kid so you trying to bully me." I understand."

"Now about JUBLA. The rapper continues, "And once I understand that, instead of reacting to that with anger, I can provide a softer landing and maybe say "Aw man, is you OK?"

"No JUBLA: Judgment, Blame or Attack."

The full text of the article is available at the Inc. website at http://on.inc.com/2BAGrWe.

Creative Energy Options Inc. challenges the status quo of workplace relationships. They think differently and encourage leaders to also think differently.

The company's Pattern Aware process, not found in any other coaching or programs, is what enables them to prepare clients to transcend business frustrations.

“Relationships take work, at work and at home. We’re all looking for the way OUT of behaviors that no longer support us. The times, they are changing. Women are demanding a new standard for gender equity. Check out my article on INC.com where Jay Z shows the world how a strong man can Observe, Understand, and Transform outdated behavior. Those who change for the better are the winners moving forward.”

Sylvia Lafair is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at sylvia@ceoptions.com. All her books are available at book retail outlets worldwide. More information is available at the company's website at https://ceoptions.com.

Meditation And Mindfulness Can Dramatically Help Prisoners Improve Mental Health And Wellbeing Says Author Doug Carnine

Carnine's latest book relates the stories of four prisoners who achieve transcendence using mindfulness, meditation and the blessings of kindness.

An article in the British newspaper The Telegraph by Sophie Jamieson described how mindfulness and meditation training helped prisoners and prison guards control anger and reduce depression and anxiety. The same article also described how almost 200 MPs, peers, and staff received similar training following Labour MP Chris Ruane and Lord Richard Layard setting up a program in Westminster that called for.“…the role of mindfulness and mental wellbeing to be officially recognised and reflected in policy, including in healthcare, education and criminal justice."

Doug Carnine, PhD., author of 'Saint Badass - Personal Transcendence In Tucker Max Hell,' is well aware of the life changing benefits meditation and mindfulness can produce for everyone, including those who are incarcerated in jails and prisons.

“Mindfulness improves our lives," Carnine stated. "Adding kindness to mindfulness transforms our lives. Scientists have found that being kind is as important to the well being of your body and mind as what you eat and how much you exercise. Moreover kindness, found in all religions, is also one of our four basic instincts, along with survival, success and reproduction. Modern society promotes success and sex. But how much do we hear about kindness? My job is to get the word out about the power of combining mindfulness and  kindness.”

'Saint Badass - Personal Transcendence In Tucker Max Hell' is a story spanning seven years worth of letters and growing friendships between four prisoners and Carnine. Each prisoner faces various crises in prison including disabling illness, a brain tumor, a prison gang attack, family betrayal, medical abuse and harsh punishments for mild offenses.  Each prisoner in his own way achieves transcendence through his crisis using mindfulness, meditation and the blessings of kindness. Readers are stunned to see  the destructive forces of an abusive childhood, a criminal adulthood, and a life without parole in prison result in their incongruously continuous acts of kindness. Their voices are raw and honest, and at times inspiring.

Another of his books, 'How Love Wins', follows in the same vein. Most of us recognize that being kinder and more present would not only improve our own lives and the lives of our loved ones, but also strengthen our communities. Numerous scientific studies have confirmed that both living mindfully and being kind to others offer a host of benefits -- from stronger relationships to longer life. Yet even if we truly care and are motivated to change, we find that old habits keep us from achieving our goal of increasing our kindness and improving our relationships.

In 'How Love Wins', Carnine offers another path. In this simple but powerful guide, he leads the reader through a 12-step process of transformation, opening a toolbox of skills and techniques that anyone can use to live more fully in the moment and be more kind to themselves and others. A lay Buddhist minister who has worked with prisoners and hospice patients, Carnine provides a clear path that will enable almost everyone to build a mindfully kind life -- and make it stick.

Carnine was recently chosen as a finalist in the ‘50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading’ Book Awards Contest. He was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors through a public voting process.

Readers and reviewers have praised his work. Geri Larkin, Founding Teacher of Still Point Zen Buddhist Temple and author of 'Stumbling Toward Enlightenment' said, “Saint Badass isn’t simply about the transformative power of sincere spiritual practice. It demonstrates the impact of our practice on our environment and the people around us. These men have many reasons to be filled with hate, to be violent, and to be completely shut down given the lives they are leading in the bowels of the hell realm of our society, our prisons. And yet. They transform. One of them glows in the dark, I swear. Reading the book gave me hope.”

Duana Welch, PhD, author of 'Love Factually: 10 Proven Steps from I Wish to I Do' stated, “This powerful book takes any of us from a life of 'me' to 'we,' from isolation to connection and love. In a world where kindness is so needed yet so little understood, How Love Wins is a must-read.”

Doug Carnine is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below, or by email at dcarnine@uoregon.edu. Both books are available at online retail book outlets. More information is available at his website at http://feedkindness.com

About Douglas Carnine:

Douglas Carnine, a professor emeritus from the University of Oregon, began his pursuit of scientific research, instructional design, Buddhism and martial arts when he was 21. His academic career focused on teaching at-risk students  and lead to him receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council for Exceptional Children.

After retiring, working with men convicted of murder and serving as a hospice volunteer made him curious about the importance of kindness. After reviewing the research on kindness, he decided to devote his writing and his advocacy to making the importance of mindful kindness more prominent. The resulting project is his website Feedkindness.com along with his books ‘How Love Wins’ and ‘Saint Badass.’

Bullying, Drug Abuse And Youth Suicide Are Key Issues For Selfie Film Maker Barbara Becker Holstein

Dr. Holstein, a psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, writes award-winning books, plays and produces short films that offer solutions to problems that impact today's teens and tweens

Our children face issues today that are unlike any problems faced by young people in previous generations. We read daily about bullying, drug abuse, teen suicide and many other issues that teens coming of age must face. Recently a feature film by Greta Gerwig, 'Lady Bird', gave us a powerful look at coming of age. Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, a pioneer in the selfie film genre, tackles these subjects head-on. She recently issued a statement addressing some of those issues.

"Given our serious societal problems such as excessive bullying, abuse of social media, our drug crisis, youths committing suicide, and more, it is extremely important for us adults to understand what growing up is all about," Holstein stated. "Films can help us understand and hopefully stir us to positive action.  'Lady Bird' drops right in front of us for one and half hours an amazing number of incidents, emotions, and reactions that often go with coming of age. Each encounter is food for thought. 'Lady Bird' is a mirror reflection of many of us.  Most of us have had a first love, a first love disappointment, a shock, been disparaged and demeaned by someone, cut off from a loved one, etc.  This film takes place in 2002, before the on slot of social media.  Good in that we can view the insults and successes that are similar to what many of us went through. However, some of the incredible pulse of today's world is missing.

"Kids live in a world that simply wasn't there for us.  Now there is no way to turn off.  When we left the classroom and the kid we didn't like we might not deal with her until school the next day.  Today because of social media, the worst bullying may take place at 11:00 at night on social media. Kids are overwhelmed by social media and the intrusiveness into our lives it allows and even encourages. Down time is lost.  Sleep is interrupted.  Many kids text all night on and off.

"As a psychologist turned filmmaker I take all of the above very seriously.  I applaud 'Lady Bird' as a window into growing up and yet I feel the need to go even further into today's window, keeping my films in the present so we see the world as kids live in it now.  Kids have smartphones and they use them constantly, so in my films their phones serve as their diaries, their constant companion and a means of sharing intimate thoughts and feelings with the world, including if they wish, strangers. In my films it is never 100% clear whether the protagonist is keeping a diary on her phone or reaching out to a stranger.  You, as the viewer must decide.

"My films utilize #selfiefilmmaking. This means that the actors often film themselves with their smartphones, without a crew watching.  This gives an intimacy and sense of reality to my films and also a great opportunity for young actors to learn how to take charge of their character, rather than just following orders.  I am proud to follow in the footsteps of Woodie Allen and Larry David who encourage not memorizing the script but absorbing the message and then letting the scene flow."

Dr. Holstein is now accepting requests to post selfie films on a website devoted to selfie films, SelfieFilmmakers.com. The selfie filmmakers can submit their films for consideration at the site.

The focus of the site is to honor different facets of the Selfie Film phenomenon. It is a place to explore what makes these films so inviting psychologically and emotionally. The site will host a variety of people who are the creators of this new wave of filmmaking. All ages covering a variety of topics. From the depths of our souls to the lightest touch of humor, a new wave of filmmaker explore being human, sharing thoughts and feelings in new ways via smart phones.

Holstein's short films have won numerous awards and accolades. 'The Truth, A Short Film' premiered at the Garden State Film Festival and its song, 'On The Edge of Something New' won the award as the best pop song of 2016. The short two minute film by Dr. Holstein, 'The Truth, A Short Short Film', premiered at FilmOneFest in July of 2016. The film was chosen as an Official Selection in the Chain Film Festival held in Manhattan on August 13, 2016. Also selected by the Jersey City International Television and Film Festival (JCITFF), and shown on November 5, 2016 at the Jersey City International Television and Film Festival. 'The Truth, A Short Film' was officially selected for the Golden Door International Film Festival in September 2016.  It was shown at The Grove Film Festival in Jersey City on May 21, 2017, the shorter version was shown at The Hang On To Your Shorts Film Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey. 'The Truth, A Short Film' was an official selection for the virtual Female Filmmakers Film Festival. There was a public voting of favorite films and 'The Truth' came in 12th of 92 films.  'The Truth, A Short Film' was an Official Selection at the Roselle Park Shorts Film Festival on September 25, 2017.

'Secrets, A Coming of Age, Selfie Film' by Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein was recently nominated for the Alice Guy-Blache Women in Cinema Award at the Golden Door International Film Festival on October 7, 2017 in Jersey City.  Nominees were announced at the Awards Night at The Lankmark Loew's Jersey Theatre .

'Falling in Love, A Coming of Age, Selfie Film, is detailed in a new ebook: 'A Selfie Film - Falling In Love' by Dr. Holstein. This ebook presents issues and stories behind the creation of Dr. Holstein's "selfie films", which utilize cutting edge New Media technology. Topics and questions for discussion can be used by a parent and a child, or a group of hundreds as universal subjects of growing up and handling tough issues are presented.

'Falling in Love'  was an official selection at the Brightside Tavern Film Festival in Jersey City in early March, nominated for several awards, including 'Best Experimental Film' and 'Best New Jersey Short'.  It came in second place for 'Best New Jersey Short'.

'Falling in Love' was an official selection also at The Hang On To Your Shorts Film Festival in Asbury Park on May 21, 2017.  It was nominated for several awards, including Best Experimental Film, and Best Concept Film.  Megan Brown, a high school freshman, who stars in 'Falling in Love' received the 'Rising Star Award' for her acting performance in 'Falling in Love' at this Festival.

Dr Holstein presented her Selfiesasfilm concept, along with her films. at the American Psychological Association meetings in early August 2017 at a Symposium: Novel Directions: Novel Directions: Four Practicing Psychologists' Atypical Pursuits.

Dr. Holstein makes a number of her books and films available to be used as fundraising tools. She requests that any verified charitable organization interested in raising funds contact her via email.
