ABC Series Premier, 'Selfie': Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, Positive Psychologist, Offers Insight

Selfies, now a primary means for self expression, have struck a chord with mainstream America for many reasons, the term now making it as the title of a mainstream network show. Dr. Holstein believes selfies can be a valid form of self expression

A new series, 'Selfie' will premier on ABC television this month. The show's central character begins to realize that  having 'friends' on Facebook is not the same as having real friends.

"Next week," Dr. Holstein stated, "we will be watching the first episode. Based loosely on the Eliza Dooley character, we get to follow the new Eliza trying to leave her habit of instant gratification via social media. Henry enters her arena to change her from a vapid person, always distracting herself via social media from her feelings, into a meaningful person who can leave narcissism behind."

"As a positive psychologist what I find fascinating about this sit-com is that the show clearly presents some of the downsides of filling our lives with Facebook friends, rather than taking the time to establish meaningful face to face friendships.  'Being friended is not the same as having friends.' 'A new show that pulls your head out of your cloud.'  However, the show's name Selfie promotes the notion that selfies in and of themselves promote narcissism and a lack of connecting with the rest of the world.  This is far from the truth. Selfies, as I've mentioned before, allow people to finally have access to a fast way to record: a new form of personal diary, for themselves and/or to connect their personal lives with friends and family.  The real culprits are not selfies, but rather a complex combination of factors in the ways we live that push us into instant time chunks, clearly augmented by the social media structure, that don't help us as human beings to feel connected, safe, loved, befriended, relaxed and just happy to be alive and taking our time with life."

Dr. Holstein is fascinated with how selfies have impacted society, and the effects on teens and tweens. She recently released "The Truth, Diary Of A Gutsy Tween". The new book is a revised and expanded edition of her very successful book, 'The Truth: I'm a Girl, I'm Smart and I Know Everything'. The new book is published by Sky Pony Press.

A Facebook page, thetruthforgirls, highlights many of the topics woven into "The Truth".  Articles, videos, remarks, conversations, visuals, on this page center around many of the issues that tweens face growing up.  These include: self-esteem issues, quarreling in families, divorce, moving to a new home, a new school, best friends, a crush, bullies, a death in the family, money issues, not feeling pretty, feeling sad, feeling lonely, jealousy and more. Dr. Holstein's book for teens and tweens is a first in using fiction for embedding positive psychology concepts.

Her second book in The Truth Series is “Secrets: You Tell Me Yours and I’ll Tell You Mine…Maybe!”  Now the girl is 13. She handles many adolescent issues, including a crush, moving, a death in the family, feeling fat and problems with girlfriends.  'Secrets' provides a book kids and parents and grandparents can share and use as a sounding board for needed communication between the generations.

Both “The Truth” and “Secrets” are great for parents, grandparents, older siblings and teachers to establish lines of communication with the tweens and teens in their lives. Both books are being re-released by Sky Pony Press.

Dr. Holstein believes that getting in touch with one's strengths, talents and potential at every age, as well as learning how to hold on to the wise, playful, happy, gutsy and energetic girl that still resides within each woman is essential for mental health.

To assist this process she has written many books, including: case study material as presented in ‘The Enchanted Self, A Positive Therapy’; inspirational stories as presented in ‘Recipes for Enchantment, The Secret Ingredient is YOU’ and romance, mystery books designed to bring fun, excitement, romance and positive psychological truths into women's lives.  Latest books are:  Parts 1 and 2 of ‘Next Year in Jerusalem’, available in paper and as e-books; Parts 1,2 and 3 of ‘Next Year in Jerusalem’ available in one book, incorporated into ‘Around Every Corner, Romance & Mystery...’.

Dr. Holstein is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at drbarbara@enchantedself.com. All of her works are available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and all other online retailers. More information is available at her website at http://www.enchantedself.com. Author Jeannette M. Gagan, PhD, Releases New Self-Help Motivational Book, 'Grow Up Your Ego'

In the tradition of authors like Ken Wilber, Jeannette Gagan's works bridge the gap between psychology and spirituality. The new work validates the stages of ego growth and helps readers chart a path to fulfillment

Author Jeannette M. Gagan, PhD, has announced the release of 'Grow Up Your Ego: Ten Scientifically Validated Stages to Emotional and Spiritual Maturity'.

In the tradition of Ken Wilber, Jeannette Gagan takes a path never before taken. Psychology would have us strengthen our ego, while spirituality often discounts it and asks us to eliminate it. Gagan's approach guides us on a journey of integration, allowing us to advance through the stages of ego growth in order to arrive at a destination of spiritual maturity and self-actualization. Her approach is down-to-earth, practical and specific.

In this groundbreaking guidebook, Gagan provides in-depth descriptions of the ten stages of ego growth as well as concise explanations of the scientific studies that validate ego growth. Frequent exercises, review sections, and illustrations support and encourage readers to locate themselves along the growth spiral and chart a path toward spiritual transformation, spiritual growth and fulfillment.

Jeannette describes the healing benefits of her writings specifically when she refers to 'Grow Up Your Ego' in this way.  “This book provides the platform from which I communicate to readers the richness and power of behavioral research: the mature ego not only processes emotion in the healthiest of ways, it also supplies the bridge to our innate spirituality. Whether through the book itself, website information, media interviews I will continue to educate those willing to read and listen and learn—the ego is indeed real; research scientifically validates ten stages of ego growth; no matter our age or station in life our egos can grow up; when the ego matures spiritual growth is its natural accompaniment!”

'Grow Up Your Ego' was a finalist in the 2014 National Indie Excellence Book Awards in the Self-Help Motivational category.

In a recent review, Midwest Book Review stated that 'Grow Up Your Ego', " . . .create[s] a self-help instruction manual that is an informed and informative, thoughtful and thought-provoking, inspired and inspiring, and above all, practical and thoroughly 'user friendly' for the non-specialist general reader seeking to improve the quality of their personal lives. Very highly recommended for personal and community library Self-Help collections."

Other reviewers have called the work “…a splendid guide to psychological and spiritual maturity;” “…a practical, useful guide to the development of emotional intelligence;”  “…not just a book to read, but a book to grow by;” and “…the author’s vision is ultimately optimistic—that with intention we can all continue to develop in ego functioning and the ability to live fully, that we are not bound by pains and insults of the past, and that no matter our age, we can continue to grow.”

Jeannette M Gagan is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at spins55332@mypacks.net. Her books are available at online book outlets. More information is available at her website at http://www.RioChamaPublications.com

Market Crash September 26 - Prophetic Nature of Biblical “Feast Days”

The new moon crescent on the eve of September 26 is the Feast of Trumpets when the trumpets of Revelation may coincide. It was so October 1, 2008 when the US Senate approved $760 billion for banksters and the stock market crashed for 10 days

"The Bible says God declares the end from the beginning and He appointed annual Sabbaths to teach truths that may include economic collapse when 'green grass is burnt up,' Revelation 8:7. Grass decodes as rich men in James 1:9-11 (King James Bible),” says  Dr. Richard Ruhling, retired physician. As a former Seventh-day Adventist he sees the religious denominations as siding with papal tradition in abolishing those festivals that were “appointed times” for prophetic events.

"Economic collapse may be the modern expression of Elijah's prayer for no rain. We are so focused on money and what it will buy that we overlook God and things that money won't buy. Maybe we should pray for America to have no money so it will repent before it's fully destroyed, even as Elijah claimed the promise of no rain for Israel's apostasy," said Ruhling.

Dr. Richard Ruhling has authored numerous books and he reminds us that the new moon on October 7, 2013 saw a government shut-down, but they just voted to raise the debt ceiling and print more money. Printing more money hasn't solved the problem and George Soros is betting $2 billion to short the market. Maybe he knows something we don't?

Best-sellers are hyped by media, but Ruhling believes apocalyptic events will test our literacy on the original best-seller, the Bible. If the economy crashes, he recommends a non-rapture book, The Bridegroom Comes! as a “heads up” for the next biblical festival and blood moon in the spring. A free copy of the ebook is available Saturday, September 27 on Amazon and further information is available at his website at http://pub.lucidpress.com/TotalHealth/.

About Dr. Richard Ruhling:

Dr. Richard Ruhling is a retired physician who taught Health Science at Loma Linda University. He attended a Bible college, is non-denominational and may be contacted for speaking on health, current events or Bible prophecy.

Ruhling authored 'Exodus 2: A Christian Patriot's Answer to the Coming Civil War - Fight or Flight?', 'The Bridegroom Comes’ and ‘Why You Shouldn’t Ask Your Doctor - Choices That Can Save Your Life’. More information is available at his websites and Amazon.

Possible Selfie During Joan Rivers Medical Procedure - Psychologist Barbara Becker Holstein Offers Insight

Selfies have become a primary means for self expression for many people today. Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein strongly urges discretion and common sense

A recent article on AOL referenced a story on a CNN report where it was reported that a staff member at the cardiac clinic where Joan Rivers went into cardiac arrest took a selfie while Joan Rivers was under anesthesia. If this is true, it raises many questions regarding if, when and where selfies are appropriate.

Dr. Holstein continues to make the public aware that selfies are here to stay, with the potential for both good and bad outcomes. "Of course, no one who was not in Joan Rivers' operating room really knows what went on in there," Dr. Holstein stated. "However, even the suggestion that a doctor or anyone in the operating room  may have taken the time to take a selfie during a medical procedure is distressing.  There is a fascination with recording the moment and selfies make it extremely easy to capture any moment anywhere.  Sometimes in order to capture ourselves in the moment we don't think clearly.  Some moments are best left not captured.   For instance, capturing a friend on the toilet, with you in the picture, as you walk by the bathroom in the dorm may not be cool once it is up on Facebook.  Better to be gracious and close the door to the bathroom. In my work with girls, tweens and teens I focus on teaching girls how to be proud of themselves and feel confident to take selfies of themselves that make them feel good, whether they share them with a best friend or simply use them as a means of creating a visual diary of their lives. It's important that we try to use good judgment in incorporating selfies into our lives."

Dr. Holstein is also offering Creative performance workshops.  The first one took place on Thursday, July 31 at the While House on Monmouth Rd. in Oakhurst, New Jersey.  The tweens made Selfie posters about what makes them gutsy. Then they performed in videos based on story lines from 'The Truth, Diary of a Gutsy Tween'.  What made the experience creative and unique for the tweens was that they got to act as the girl and her best friend Angela in scenes based on the book, but then they got to do improvisational work where they developed the characters and the solutions to their problems way beyond what is written in the diary.  This was an amazing experience for the tweens, helping them to recognize not only their acting abilities but abilities to create, solve problems and modify beyond the script given to them.  They left the Workshop feeling empowered, which is what being gutsy is all about.

Dr. Holstein's book for teens and tweens is a first in using fiction for positive psychology.

More information is available at her website at http://www.NewRomanceBooks.com. Ami Moore, The Chicago Dog Coach, Offers Tips To Avoid Vacation Guilt For Dog Owners

Moore believes the key to avoiding vacation guilt for owners and stress for pets lies in understanding our pets and in the attitude of the owner who is forced to leave pets behind

Ami Moore, a Chicago dog training expert widely known as 'The Chicago Dog Coach', was quoted in the Boston Globe recently in an article entitled, 'Leave room in your carry-on for pet guilt'. The article covered the concept of 'pet guilt',  which strikes owners who go on vacation and are forced to leave a family member behind. This can inflict emotional trauma on the pet and can be a source of real stress for both owner and pet. In the article she offered practical and real world advice for pet owners.

“Dogs don’t recognize us as humans, or dogs, or alpacas, or anything else,” Moore stated. “They see us as an energy field. The trick is how you leave them when you go on vacation. If you leave with happy energy, then you’re giving them happy energy. If you leave them with negative energy like ‘I’m worried,’ ‘I’m afraid,’ ‘I’m guilty,’ then the dog will act the same way.”

“The dog is very easy to change because dogs are natural followers. Nature likes balance and strength. Humans like drama trauma cases. People like Lindsey Lohan and Kim and Kanye. Nature doesn’t. Nature runs away from that or kills it.”

The Chicago Dog Coach, Ami Moore, CMT, CMVT is a leading expert in dog psychology. Her much acclaimed book, 'The Alphatude Attitude' was part of the curriculum at the Vancouver Island College Of Natural Wellness.

After attending three dog training schools Ami Moore started dog training in Chicago. She was awarded the Chicagoland Tails award for best dog trainer and has been honored by various charities for her work with rehabilitating aggressive dogs. Ms. Moore also created the famous Guerrilla Group Obedience classes, and the 'Fido Fat Camp' concept so that loving pet owners could holistically increase their dog's health and wellness with exercise, natural food and psychological rehabilitation techniques. Ami Moore offered one of the first Chicago dog yoga or Doga classes in the city of Chicago.

She developed a three-tiered dog training and dog behavior management system based upon Alphatude, Amiability and Activity to balance the mind and body of the Chicago urban dog and dog owner which is explained in detail in her book. 'The Alphatude Attitude' is available on her website at http://www.chicagodogcoach.com.

Ami Moore has been featured in numerous industry publications, magazines and newspapers across the country. She writes as the Chicago Dog Training Expert for Examiner.com. Author Mary Romero Featured In Motivational Book, 'Tales To Inspire: The Sapphire Collection'

Mary Romero's story reveals that, even though she and her siblings witnessed spousal abuse as young children, she managed to bring good memories into her adult years and went on to help others facing similar challenges

According to the 2010 Intimate Partner Violence Report issued by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, 24.3% of women have been subjected to physical violence by an intimate partner and 48.4% have experienced at least one psychologically aggressive behavior by an intimate partner during their lifetime. The long-term effects of these types of episodes can and do change lives. Mary Romero is one of those people who suffered abuse as a child.

But in Mary's case, she managed to overcome this challenge. She used her experience to help her become an effective, loving parent. She also built a successful career as a therapist, help families overcome similar challenges. Her story is featured in 'Tales To Inspire: The Sapphire Collection'.

"My winning story, 'The Heart of Home is Hot Chocolate', stems from a childhood filled with spousal abuse, child abuse and molestation," Mary stated.  "All three of these topics are subjects that we, the general public, hear about every single day across the country yet; very few strides have been made to stop the cycles of familial abuse. Just in recent months we have heard of the 8 year-old boy who had been repeatedly tortured and beaten by his parents.  Several social workers who were supposed to be on the case were fired due to their findings of 'no abuse'.  Upon being examined it was noted that he, '…had BB pellets lodged in his lungs and groin.'  This, along with the two even more recent stories of domestic violence with professional football players, Ray Rice and Ray McDonald, makes it appear as though the powers that be are not moving quickly enough to prevent these atrocities from occurring. While these are not topics that society wishes to admit exist, they are all too common for children across these United States and children around the world.  My own experiences are what led me to become a Life Coach, child advocate and author on these and other important topics.   I have written about my own childhood in my book entitled, 'The Breakdown of an All American Family, an autobiography of child abuse, domestic violence and recovery'.  While these are difficult and often very heart wrenching stories, they are real with real victims who are being affected every day and these effects can last a lifetime.   There needs to be a greater awareness in order to protect our most precious commodity, our children."

Mary started working with the juvenile population over twenty five years ago in an effort to help effect change after working in the legal field.  Her dedication and determination to help stop abuses of children and adults alike has made her an expert in her field.  Mary has received several awards for her "Outstanding Dedication and Excellence in her Profession".

'Tales2Inspire' is a growing collection of anthologies of varied themes, with each book containing a compilation of stories filled with uplifting, inspiring messages compiled by author Lois W. Stern. Stern has authored some of these stories herself, but many more of them come from winners of her annual ‘Tales2Inspire’ contest. Stern has discovered that inspiring stories can be found everywhere. She continually seeks submissions by talented writers, but also keeps alert to news of unsung heroes whose fascinating stories find they way into one of her books . Each of the inspirational stories, including those submitted by Stern herself, is judged anonymously by a peer group to determine eligibility for publication. There are no fees to submit for consideration, and winning authors receive many no-charge platform-building opportunities.

"Because each of the stories included in any of the ‘Tales2Inspire’ collections is selected for its inspirational value, these books make ideal gifts for both those seeking a simple pick-me-up to those looking for uplifting, motivational messages presented in a very powerful way," Stern stated. "The appeal of these books is not just for people who need a major lift in spirits, but also for those just wanting a good read with embedded ‘feel good’ messages."

In a recent review of ‘Tales2Inspire’, Bernie Siegel, MD, author of ‘A Book Of Miracles’ and ‘365 Prescriptions for the Soul' stated, “(These are books) with a heart. Filled with stories which reveal what happens when we choose to live in a way that is life enhancing for all God's creatures. Our potential is miraculous when we choose to inspire the vapor of love. The people in these stories have always been my teachers. Read and learn the lessons of life.”

The Stigma Suffered By Polyamorous People: Erotic Fiction Author Neige Blanche Issues Statement

Neige Blanche is the author of 'Twisted Oak', an erotic fiction novel that sets a new standard for erotic literature. Alternative lifestyles play a major role in her novel

A recent article by Olga Khazan in 'The Atlantic' made a case for the idea that while polyamorous people must deal with numerous stigmas, studies suggest that they may handle some relationship challenges better than monogamous people do. The in-depth article contained a number of academic studies and interviews with a large number of polyamorous people.

"The article touches on an important aspect in all relationships that centers on trust and how polyamory differs from monogamy when dealing with jealousy issues," Blanche stated. "I came away from reading the article with a firm understanding that polys are more open and honest about their emotions, perspectives and needs, therefore ameliorating jealousy issues."

"What is polyamory and how does it differ from the age-old practice of polygamy or even swinging or open marriages that were so popular in the 70’s? Well, as it turns out, polyamory literally means 'many loves'. It can involve three or more adults either living together or not, legally married or not who engage in many types of situations or not, so long as everyone volunteers for such activity."

The idea of non-monogamous relationships is not new. What is new is the greater acceptance of these types of relationships in our society, bringing them out into the open and giving them a larger space in our collective consciousness. In regards to literature, this opens doors that were previously closed and has moved erotic literature out of the back room and into the light.

While new erotic books for women are released nearly every day, many simply rehash familiar and tired story lines. Only a few carve out a new standard for erotic literature. Blanche's 'Twisted Oak' defines modern American family in all its diversity and strength that will endure for generations. A culture that embraces the alternative, but grasps the past, the characters and scenarios are both familiar and profane, but valuable in the struggle to find our greatest potential. 'Twisted Oak' is not for the faint of heart. It is an honest vignette of the savagery of the human condition and the power in all of us to live in spite of it.

Without a sense of place, and with no one to help her navigate the city as she struggles through withdrawal, Susan soon falls under the wing of Ty, a man no stranger to misery himself. Among crumbling walls and garden gates, he leads her deep into the city to a family and world so unlike her own that she must take on a new name: Neige Blanche.

Armed with this new identity, Neige finds her way to Twisted Oak, an estate owned by Mr. Gregory-Michel Delacroix, a place where power and pain are both familiar and profane. Wrapped up in Mr. Delacroix’s love for her, and intoxicated by his demands for complete surrender, Neige falls for this wealthy stranger and his exacting set of rules. With the historic kaleidoscope of New Orleans serving as the backdrop of her transformation, Neige embraces this voyeuristic new terrain, but is left wondering: Why me? As she unravels the Delacroix family history, the answer to her question is revealed.

Reviewers have stated, “Accurately portrays the culture of the south and the beauty of New Orleans” and “Prose was beautiful and compelling to read . . . examination of psychology behind the characters was excellent.” Additionally, “Miss Blanche enters a sexual realm little known to some but perhaps thought about, even wished for (at least partly) by most women."

“I’ve actually been thanked for writing 'Twisted Oak' and told that it is ‘courageous’. It feels great to be appreciated, but I never looked at the work as courageous. I’m a realist who understands that for as many different people there are out there, there are as many different types of relationships. Every human wants acceptance, love and emotional bonding. I’ll even go so far as saying we require it, so why not celebrate it in all its forms instead of imposing our definitions of it on others whom we don’t even know?”

Neige Blanche is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at Nezzie@jkoszarek.com. 'Twisted Oak: A Sexual Odyssey' is available at Amazon, Goodreads and at Blanche's website. More information is available at her website at http://www.jkoszarek.com.

About Neige Blanche:

A graduate of Western International University, Neige Blanche moved to New Orleans in 1986 and has lived in the region ever since. She has been a community volunteer for over twenty-five years with various groups in support of local public, private, parochial, and charter schools. She lives part-time between northern New Mexico and the Mississippi Gulf Coast with her husband and two dogs.

Suicide And The Other Side: Pat Chalfant, Author Of 'Spirit Lights', Offers Hope To Those Who Suffer

The suicide of Robin Williams has brought suicide into the forefront of our collective consciousness again. Pat Chalfant, CARE Certified Medium, reminds us that suicide is not necessarily the end of one's existence and that there is hope

Suicide statistics are sobering. According to the CDC website, suicide is ranked in 10th place in leading causes of death. The death of Robin Williams by suicide has reminded us that a staggering number of people not only contemplate suicide - many follow through. These statistics demonstrate that no age, race or gender is unaffected. Even those fortunate few who 'have it all' are not immune. Pat Chalfant, CARE Certified medium and author of 'Spirit Lights A Path to Mediumship' believes those who attempt to 'end it all' cannot possibly put a stop to their own existence.

"I have a story in the beginning of my book," Chalfant stated, "about a woman named Sonia whose fiancé committed suicide and subsequently she began to have suicidal ideology, too.  She got in touch with me hoping to  study with me until she was able to contact him on the Other Side of life for herself.  I gave her a reading first and successfully identified him as a spirit trying to reach her, and because of that she asked to study with me.  I told her she probably wouldn’t learn enough to be able to reach him for quite some time.  She said she still wanted to try."

"She was miraculously cured of her suicidal ideology and believed that when she and I were meditating together, she saw her fiancé and knew he was alive now and perfectly well and happy.  Then she saw Jesus Christ (remarkable because she was a Hindu and had never read the Christian Bible. The effects of that experience lingered so strongly with her for weeks afterward that she could close her eyes and would see the image of Christ’s face, just as he had looked when she was 'cured'.”

Chalfant has also written a column on parapsychology and interviewed Hollywood stars and the psychics who read for them for a national newspaper.

Chalfant's groundbreaking new book, 'Spirit Lights A Path To Mediumship', explains how a skeptic developed mediumship abilities and took her life down a path to a life transformed by the spiritual. She considers the book to be an "autobiographical textbook."

Pat understands that mediumship is a controversial issue, but also believes that credible mediumship holds the promise of benefits for mankind that have not been fully explored. This is especially true for those who are contemplating suicide, or whose lives have been affected by suicide.

“Often overlooked about the benefits of studying mediumship is that meditation is basic to its development," Chalfant stated. "So the mediumship student develops a path to relaxation and peace of mind which are inevitable outcomes of meditation.  For the same reason the student achieves greater powers of concentration.  A positive state of mind is stressed, too, for good, safe mediumship, so the student’s outlook becomes increasingly optimistic.  Students have also told me their self-confidence grew after studying mediumship.”

In addition to client consultations, Pat has penned the 'Spirit Lights Song Book'. She also does readings for clients by phone and teaches mediumship development classes. She has also created a DVD entitled 'Spirit Lights Psychic Development DVD'.

Pat Chalfant is currently appearing on The Authors Show. Her interview is available now at The Authors Show site. 'Spirit Lights A Path To Mediumship' is available at her website and at Amazon. Pat is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at pat.chalfant@patchalfant.com. More information is available at her website at http://www.patchalfant.com.

Author Joseph Macolino Releases New Fantasy Novel, 'The Birth Of Death'

In the tradition of J.R.R. Tolkien and G.R.R. Martin, Joseph Macolino is a builder of worlds. Macolino's newest fantasy fiction sets a new standard in books for young adults

Good fantasy books are released every day. Good fantasy books with real depth are not. Masters of the epic high fantasy genre, such as J.R.R. Tolkein and G. R. R. Martin, were builders of worlds. While other stories may be derivative of their works, few can create at the level of these revered masters. Following the path of his mentors, Joseph Macolino, a contemporary scribe of epic high fantasy, constructs a world of extreme depth and extraordinary richness. As a famous hobbit once said, "If you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to."

"Evorath gives readers a way to escape from reality while showing that even the greatest heroes struggle with doubt," Macolino stated. "These books are intended to show that it is the diversity of individuals, rather than conformity, is what makes for a strong society. I started writing the Evorath series for my own escape. As I built the world though, I knew that I had to share it." What pleases me the most about 'The Birth of Death' is that readers seem to get just as much excitement reading it as I got writing it.”

'The Birth of Death' is the first in a series of fantasy novels taking place in the world of Evorath. With elves, centaur, lamia, satyr, demons, and a variety of original races, readers are immersed in a world of excitement and adventure. These good fantasy books delve into complex relationships and budding friendships. Readers will learn about the world of Evorath and the people who are working to survive in a flawed society. Of course, with a great new evil growing in Evorath, these flaws in society soon become the least of their concerns.

The Birth of Death has received rave reviews from readers. One reviewer stated " An exciting, well written and comprehensive fantasy book that I enjoyed reading. It has a great pace and nicely executed by the author. The main character, Artimus was a superb creation . . ."

"What pleases me the most about 'The Birth of Death'," Macolino concluded, "is that readers seem to get just as much excitement reading it as I got writing it.”

Joseph Macolino is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at media@evorath.com. 'The Birth Of Death' is available at most online retailers. More information is available on Macolino's website at http://www.evorath.com.

About Joseph Macolino:

When he is not pouring his heart, soul, blood, sweat, and tears into writing good fantasy books, Joseph spends time studying the politics and economics of Earth, and also enjoys studying philosophy from nearly every school of thought; if it has anything to do with social philosophy, he wants to know about it. Through this learning, he admits that most philosophy books are relatively dry in their presentation, but hopes to convey these concepts in a way that people can enjoy and relate to. He looks to accomplish this by providing good epic fantasy books for years to come.

Ultimately, Joseph Macolino built Evorath to be his ultimate fantasy book getaway and wants his readers to enjoy the same luxury.

Epic Selfie Spree: Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, Author Of 'The Truth', Offers Advice To Parents

While selfies have become a primary means for self expression with teens today, Dr. Holstein believes both teens and parents must use discretion and common sense

A recent piece on the ABC News website, entitled "Meet The Dad Who Recorded His Daughter's Epic Selfie Spree", related the story of 13 year old Skylar Beckham who, according to the information, takes about 50 selfies a day. Her father filmed her during one such session and placed the recording on YouTube, where it garnered over one million views.

"From my vantage point as a positive psychologist specializing in girls, tweens and teens," Dr. Holstein stated, "I see Skylar's fascination with herself as very healthy.  Her pictures that she sends to her friends are artistic, dramatic and full of life.  They allow her to express on many levels personal feelings and facial mannerisms than we typically don't allow in our society.  However, the pictures her father took when she was preparing a Selfie don't do her a favor.  They reveal a private moment that should have stayed private.  Selfies should remain the privileged decision of the girl taking them, not the unexpected decision of someone else."

"Psychologically, Selfies are good for personal development at any age as they allow us to express, by our choice, extra dimensions of ourselves.  Let's keep it that way.  These are portraits of ourselves that technology now offers us.  Like all technology we must treat it with respect and in doing so our kids and even our grandmas can 'show off' and  keep a record of their lives, while feeling good about themselves in ways that work for them and certainly don't hurt anyone."

Dr. Holstein's book for teens and tweens is a first in using fiction for positive psychology.

More information is available at her website at http://www.NewRomanceBooks.com. Videos from the first Creative Performance Workshop are available on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIMJ00jmjVO_TzOKTRUEF1eoS3n4uHfCp

Newest San Diego Attraction, Interactive Model Railroad Exhibit, To Open In Old Town, San Diego, CA

Construction of the new model railroad exhibit has begun and progress is being posted on the website. The new model railroad exhibit is expected to be ready for the 2014 Holiday Season

San Diego attractions draw millions of visitors each year. Old Town San Diego is recognized as an extremely popular destination for tourists from around the world. While there are many things to see with kids in San Diego, one of the most popular attractions (anywhere) has been model trains and model railroads. Very soon children and adults will now be able to experience locally in Old Town the joy and happiness that model railroad brings: a live interactive model railroad is coming to Old Town San Diego in time for the holiday season.

Today model railroading is more than just a hobby. Today's model railroad and model train displays are light years beyond the Christmas train set we remember.

Gary Hickok heads up the new model railroad project. When asked why at 65 he decided to start this venture, he replied “Model railroad has been a hobby of mine since a very early age, and it brought me years of immense pleasure.  With retirement coming, I thought why not turn a lifelong hobby into a business I can enjoy through my senior years that will also bring joy and happiness to countless children, parents and grandparents.  Traveling by train was a big thing back in the 30-50’s era.  The baby boomers of today will certainly appreciate going back on memory lane telling their grandkids how fun railroad was.  When visiting a model railroad exhibit, everybody gets excited, everybody is happy, everybody wins.”

Once open, the interactive model railroad exhibit will be one of the largest O scale operating exhibits open to the public in the Western United States.  When visiting "The Depot", visitors will see many types of different trains, including models of steam engines of the past up to trains of the modern era and will include Santa Fe trains. The layout will be approximately 2,500 square feet with plenty of animation, sound, lights, operating accessories and remote control devices. The Old Town Model Railroad Depot layout  has been designed to give visitors a feeling of how life was during the 1950's by displaying a large city with buildings from that time period, a working country farm, a zoo, rail yard engine workshops, and more.

Construction of “The Depot” has begun at 2415 San Diego Avenue, San Diego, CA 92110, suites 107 & 108, and the exhibit is scheduled to open by early December. Photos of the ongoing construction are posted weekly on the company's website. A slideshow gives website visitors a glimpse into the ongoing construction, a preview of locomotives to run at “The Depot”, as well as a historical perspective of railroad traveling .

Author Brinn Colenda's New Release, 'Chita Quest', Takes Silver Medal In FAPA's President's Awards

In the tradition of WEB Griffin, Tom Clancy and Bernard Cornwell, Brinn Colenda writes military themed novels that reflect military members and their families thrust into extraordinary circumstances

Author Brinn Colenda's newest release, 'Chita Quest', has taken the Silver Medal in the Adult Fiction Action/Suspense category in the Florida Authors & Publishers Association's 2014 President's Awards.

Thriller books, especially military fiction, are Brinn Colenda's specialty. He is committed to creating international works of fiction that are character-driven with dynamic, well-developed plots. His works are based on real-life people and experiences. 'Chita Quest' brings a sense of realism to his work that is seldom seen in the military thriller genre for good reason – he has been there. Colenda spent 20 plus years traveling the globe as a pilot and a political-military officer.  Colenda’s work has also garnered awards and notice from SouthWest Writers and the Military Writers Society of America.

"I started writing my action thriller, 'Cochabamba Conspiracy', shortly after leaving a tour of duty in the U.S. Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia," Colenda stated. "Later I turned that book into a series with the publication of 'Chita Quest'. Both novels are international thrillers with political and military undertones. Both feature U.S. Air Force Colonel Tom Callahan and his family and associates. The characters are all fictional, products of my fevered imagination and composites of people I had the pleasure (or misfortune) of serving with during my twenty-plus years in the Air Force."

In the storyline of 'Chita Quest', Colonel Tom Callahan is driven to find out if American POWs were left behind after the war - his own father is still listed as Missing In Action. What Callahan doesn’t understand is how politically explosive the issue is, domestically and internationally. As Tom begins his journey, friends and associates meet violent deaths. Aided by his Australian-born wife, Colleen, Tom’s quest to find his father takes him halfway across the world to an Asia threatened by an ultranationalist Russian president who is rattling sabres and threatening the governments of Vietnam, China, and Mongolia. Ultimately, Callahan enters the city of Chita, Siberia. Along the way, he is helped and hindered by unexpected friends and cunning—and deadly– enemies.

Reviewers have raved about Colenda's work and in regards to Chita Quest have stated, “an exciting blend of military intrigue, political suspense, travelogue, and romance - riveting flying sequences and chase scenes - Colenda brings expertise to real characters and fast, intriguing plotting - a thrilling adventure - (a) blend of political intrigue and family values - Colenda is a master storyteller…”

Brinn Colenda is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at bcolenda@newmex.com. All of Colenda's works are available at Southern Yellow Pine Publishing. More information is available at his website at http://www.BrinnColenda.us.

Media Violence And Children - Children's Book Author A. J. Cosmo Offers Important Advice To Parents

A recent article compiled by Herb Scribner in Deseret News paints a bleak picture of how violent and scary movies affect kids. A. J. Cosmo, a successful author of over 40 children's books, believes parents can and must make better choices

Violence plagues our society and children perform some of those violent acts. The question we must ask is, 'Why?'

In a recent article in Deseret News the Association for Youth Children and Natural Psychology noted that films could increase violent and aggressive behavior in children. The National School Safety Center has suggested that violent and graphic films may cause much of the recent school violence. Numerous other organizations agree. And so now the question we might ask is, 'Are there better choices?'

Children's book author A. J. Cosmo believes there are better choices. Parents can make those choices, and they must start when children are very young.

"Play the games your children want to play. See the movies they want to see ahead of time. Pay attention to ratings. Read reviews for the content that they want to digest. It’s not only about monitoring what they enjoy; it’s also about connecting with them on their terms.

"Ask your children: 'Why do you want to see this movie?' Have a conversation about it. If you don’t want them to see it, share the reasons why. Violence has an attractive quality about it, of course children will be curious to see it (it is forbidden after all) but if we can add context we can form understanding."

A.J. Cosmo's stories are crafted to help parents teach their children simple everyday lessons in an easy to understand manner. By artfully marrying beautiful illustrations and language, children are challenged to explore his magical worlds. Written for the transitional reader, A.J.'s stories allow children to develop and master a new level of reading. A.J. is the author & illustrator of over forty children's books for the Amazon Kindle including the best selling "The Monster That Ate My Socks" which spent almost two years at the top of the Monster category and in the top 500 books overall. While much of his work is centered on the concept of monsters, Cosmo manages to create characters that are funny, unique and wildly engaging.

"We strive to create stories where children are encouraged to accept differences, mitigate problems, and find alternative solutions that doesn’t involve violence. In 'The Monster That Ate My Socks,' Argyle the monster is relocated by the children that capture him. Mia, from 'G is for Garden Grouper' incorporated the monsters into her new garden (and they heal her illness in return.)

"We need to tell stories that show the world in a better light because stories create perception and perception literally is reality. If our stories say that violence is the best solution to our issues, then we shouldn’t be surprised when children use violence to solve their issues. If we tell children that the world is a cold, violent, place then we are shaping their future to be just that."

A. J. Cosmo is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at aj@ajcosmo.com. All of Cosmo's works are available at Amazon. More information is available at his website at http://www.ajcosmo.com.

New Fantasy Novel, 'Racing To Heaven', Released By Author Harriet Tramer

In the tradition of coming of age stories such as National Velvet, Harriet Tramer's fantasy fiction takes us on a mystical journey through the rich interior life of a girl who dreams big dreams

Author Harriet Tramer has announced the release of her latest fantasy book, 'Racing To Heaven'. Tramer's fantasy novel takes us on a journey through the interior life of a girl who dreams of winning the biggest horse race of her life. The girl, age 16, wins the race but dies at the finish line. Sadly the young girl, narrator of the tale, has suffered many years of neglect on the part of her narcissistic parents. As did Dorothy in the Wizard Of Oz, the girl dreams of a more exciting and colorful place than the world that surrounds her. Unlike Dorothy, however, she might have found that there truly is a better place than home. At the end, in a mind-bending twist, Tramer's fantasy fiction work leaves us to be the judge of what is true.

While child neglect is the subject of an untold number of headlines today, seldom do we hear about the more subtle forms of neglect - apathy and disinterest. The long term effects of these forms of neglect, not so newsworthy by comparison, are nevertheless devastating. Dr.Jonice Webb, PhD., has published many articles on the subject. Dr. Webb believes this form of child neglect can manifest later in life as feelings of invisibility, apathy and the inability to connect. Many of those children suffer from a lack of emotional intelligence. She refers to this condition as Childhood Emotional Neglect.

"Once I finished this novel," Tramer stated, "my work had only begun because I could not stop thinking of the many ways in which it could be interpreted. But no matter how you might chose to envision this book, one thing comes through loud and clear. The narrator was the victim of emotional neglect by her parents. And that neglect sent her off on a treacherous path."

Most great fantasy books leave little open to interpretation. 'Racing To Heaven' however can be interpreted in numerous different ways. Possibly, it is a tragedy that culminates in a young girl’s ending up lifeless on the track as she crosses the finish line after winning the biggest race of her life.  But then again, her “adventures” might actually be nothing more than fantasies that fill a teenager’s mind and grow wilder in her telling. In either case, however, reading this book should give readers pause to think about life and maybe even about what happens after we leave this earthly existence.

Harriet Tramer is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at harriet.tramer@tri-c.edu. 'Racing To Heaven' is available at Amazon. More information is available at her website at http://www.racingtoheaven.net.

About Harriet Tramer:

Ever since she was quite young, Harriet Tramer has known that writing would always be a major part of her life. She fully intended to be creative with words, practicing this craft whenever possible. And to her great joy, opportunities to do just that have come her way as she has worked as both a journalist and a college instructor. The connections between writing and being a journalist are obvious. While it also involves information gathering skills, the word “writing” is the operant term in the phrase “writing articles.” But the connection between being an instructor and being a writer are not as clear. And that is where computers come into the picture. Harriet teaches online classes at the New School in New York City plus other schools and she fills computer screen after computer screen with instructions for completing assignments and comments on papers that are submitted.

In addition to writing and teaching, Harriet has a very wide range of interests. She busies herself with everything from yoga to horseback riding and music. Keeping physical active is a major priority as is keeping her mind occupied with things that are happening in our ever changing world.
