Author Claire P. Gordon To Appear On The Authors Show To Discuss Her Latest Novel 'The Color Of Music'

Claire P. Gordon, Duke Ellington’s secretary when she was in her 20’s, is the author of several books about jazz . 'The Color of Music', her first novel, is an unusual story about bi-racial twins. She will talk during her appearance on The Authors Show on December 23, 2010

Claire P. Gordon, who lives on the California Central Coast, recently announced the publication of her first novel, “The Color of Music.” Her previous books about jazz are 'Boy Meets Horn, the Autobiography of Rex Stewart', 'Marshal Royal, Jazz Survivor' and 'My Unforgettable Jazz Friends'. In the “The Color of Music” she tells a gripping story about twins. Although separated and raised in different cultures, both twins have musical talent and like jazz.

In the story, the children are the identical boy twins of a couple – the father a famous black jazz pianist and the mother, his blonde girl friend. She is alone when the twins are born and unable to keep them. One is raised by a French couple, who didn’t know that his father was black, and the other adopted by a black American couple who know about this about the father, but nothing else.

"This novel," stated Ms. Gordon, "has been rolling around in my head for many years. The twins are separated at birth. One is kept by a French couple, raised as their own child, and brought to Quebec, Canada where he grows up. The other is adopted by a black American family and spends most of his childhood years in Los Angeles. The reader gets to watch them grow up, and sees the many problems that arise. There are twists and turns and cliff-hangers in every chapter."

Claire Gordon brings a unique and personal perspective to this story, as she was the secretary for Duke Ellington. A Caucasian, she served in this role during a time when race and color were not issues to be politely debated or discussed. Segregation was a hard cold fact of every day life. She observed discrimination against these world class musicians, allowing her to bring a perspective to 'The Color Of Music' that very few people could manage.

Ms. Gordon has recently been interviewed on television and will appear as a featured guest on The Authors Show Radio at www.TheAuthorsShow.com on December 23, 2010. She is available for media interview and can be contacted using the information below or by email at clgordon@charter.net.'The Color Of Music' is available at her website at www.ClaireGordonJazz.com and from Amazon.com. 'The Color Of Music' is available in both paperback and Kindle versions.

Profile:

Claire P. Gordon was born in Los Angeles, California. The subject of twins always intrigued her because she was raised with a cousin her age, creating the concept and inner feeling of being a twin.

Claire skipped through school, graduating from LA High when she was sixteen. She enrolled at UCLA and then transferred to Berkeley, Her first love was music and specifically jazz music. Through a series of strokes of luck she became acquainted with Duke Ellington and eventually became his first and probably only secretary.

While working there, she met the young songwriter, Irving Gordon. They began seeing each other and after a year, they married. Irving’s career flourished as he turned out many songs. One that he placed with a publisher was a disappointment because the company had been unable to get anyone to record the song. When Claire heard this, she dialed Nat Cole's number. Her old friend had become a big celebrity but not too big to remember his long-time fans. Nat King Cole looked at the sheet music, played the notes and sang the words. “I’ll record this for you, Claire,” he said. Thus was born one of his biggest hits, 'Unforgettable'.

Claire Gordon is the author of 'Boy Meets Horn, the Autobiography of Rex Stewart', 'Marshal Royal, Jazz Survivor', her own memoir entitled 'My Unforgettable Jazz Friends' and finally 'The Color Of Music'.

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein Offers Teleseminar Packed With Tips On How Grandparents Can Connect With Grandchildren

These days grandparents feel more and more out of touch with their grandchildren. Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, a positive psychologist, educator and author of fiction books for teens and tweens, believes teens and tweens can learn valuable life skills from grandparents in spite of an ever widening generational gap. In her new teleseminar, available for download at no charge, she demonstrates how and why grandparents can take a lead role in the grandchild's social development without stepping on the toes of parents

In today's technological world, grandparents often feel unable to connect with their grandchildren. They often feel neglected, out of touch or out of sync. This is very unfortunate, as it is often a grandparent who can provide much needed guidance in regards to helping a grandchild develop the social and intellectual skills needed to become a good citizen. Establishing communication between the grandparent and grandchild is the key. The problem is sometimes related to overcoming the challenges inherent in new technologies grandparents do not understand. At other times parents themselves can present barriers. Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein believes these challenges can and indeed must be overcome. She is offering a no charge teleseminar download to grandparents and group leaders to help guide them in making the right decisions. The important topics covered in the teleseminar dovetail with the concepts presented in the second book in The Truth Series, 'Secrets: You Tell Me Yours and I’ll Tell You Mine…Maybe!’.

"There are three important reasons," stated Dr. Holstein, "why parents, grandparents and teachers should download this seminar and then share 'Secrets' with the teens and tweens in their lives:

* You have a window into the most innermost thoughts and feelings of a young person.

* You can use this window for discussion and really getting to know the child or teen in your life.

* You will have the fun of a trip for yourself down memory lane as you read about the girl's adventures."

Many grandparents feel out of touch in a world dominated by computer, social networking and cell phone technologies. But if grandparents realize how important they are, they can take the time to step up to the plate. It is the grandparent who can create magical moments through one on one interaction with a grandchild. Grandparents can help grandchildren develop curiosity, develop their intellects and help them develop effective social skills. In a world where most two parent families must work to support the family, it is the perhaps retired grandparent who can help fill in the gaps. The end result is that the grandchild may grow up to be a fine, caring and knowledgeable person with a desire to help others and be able to socialize with people of all ages.

"The youngster, teen or tween," continued Dr. Holstein, "can also benefit from sharing 'Secrets' in many ways:

* The grandchild can enjoy a great fictional read with all the twists and turns that happen at this age, such as finding a best friend, crushes, moving, family issues, moods, etc

* The youngster will see that it is ok to have lots of moods, feelings and new ways of viewing themselves and the world at their age

* They will feel reinforced to be themselves in all their glory."

The no charge seminar and links to 'Secrets - You Tell Me Yours I'll Tell You Mine - Maybe!' can be found at www.enchantedself.com/teleclassgrandparenting.html . Dr. Barbara speaks regularly on radio programs around the country, and appears on television in New York and New Jersey. Her inspiring audio shows and podcasts can be found on the web, along with hundreds of her articles and stories. She has been a contributor to Heart and Soul, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Redbook, Simple Pleasures, The Wall Street Journal, Time on line, and Family Circle Magazine. As The RV Industry Rebounds, Americans Take To The Road In Search of America's Heartbeat

Recreational vehicle sales are on the increase as the result of cautious optimism regarding the economy. The recreational vehicle industry is showing signs of a turnaround, and Americans once again are taking to the road

The past two years have seen the recreational vehicle industry in its worst shape since 1991. Recent figures however suggest that the RV industry is on the rebound at last and Americans are preparing once again to take to the road for those highly anticipated extended travel trips. Bob Mottram, the author of 'In Search Of America's Heartbeat', is relieved to see this happen now.

“Many people, including myself, are happy that the RV industry is pulling out of its Great Recession nosedive," Mottram said. "This means there is significant pent-up demand for entry into the RV lifestyle, and my book is nicely positioned to help those who would like to take that plunge. 'In Search of America’s Heartbeat' not only provides practical advice for persons contemplating a life on the road, but also captures the feelings and the allure that draw so many into the lifestyle in the first place.”

'In Search Of America's Heartbeat' is both an engaging tale and a guide to the ultimate road trip. Mottram and his wife lived the secret dream of countless American couples; a year on the road -with no timetable- that took them more than 30,000 miles into the far-flung corners of the nation. Along the way they came face-to-face with personal grief but also with the warmth and humanity of America and its people. The book has garnered excellent reviews. Readers find the story engaging and the information provided invaluable. Mottram also was featured recently on The Authors Show, and was selected to be included in '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading', produced by The Authors Show.

“I’m delighted to have been selected," Mottram said, "from among the hundreds who have done broadcast interviews on The Authors Show for inclusion among only 50 in '50 Great Writers You Should be Reading'. As a life-long professional journalist, I find the recognition gratifying.”

Bob Mottram is available for interview, and can be reached using the information below, or by email at searchforamerica@msn.com. More information, including a pre-trip checklist, a list of America's best RV parks, America's top 10 must-see locations and photo galleries are available at Mottram's website at www.RVAcrossTheUsa.com. 'In Search Of America's Heartbeat' is available through most online book retailers and wherever books are sold. '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' is available at The Authors Show website at www.TheAuthorsShow.com.

In Search Of America's Heartbeat
Robert Mottram
ISBN 9781934248362

Profile:

Robert Mottram has spent his life in journalism. His career has taken him from the North Slope of Alaska to the humid jungles of Costa Rica, into classic smoke-filled rooms where politicians have decided the fate of important social programs and even into a small Russian Orthodox Church for what purportedly was the first canonization ever conducted by any church in the Western Hemisphere. He has spent more time in courtrooms than many lawyers, and has covered courts at every level but one in the American judicial system.

His latest book,' In Search Of America's Heartbeat', is a step-by-step guide to road-trip planning. Richly written and detailed, the book recounts a 12-month RV trip covering more than 30,000 miles.

Michael Kleiner, Award Winning Author of 'Beyond The Cold', Chosen For '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'

Michael Kleiner, award winning author of 'Beyond The Cold: An American's Warm Portrait Of Norway', has been chosen to be included in '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'. The award winning autobiography details Kleiner's move to Norway as a young child and his eventual return as an adult that builds a lifelong relationship with a country, a culture and a social system not his own

Award winning author Michael Kleiner has been chosen to be included in '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading', produced by The Authors Show. In his book, 'Beyond The Cold: An American's Warm Portrait Of Norway', we are offered a rare glimpse into the experience of a young boy who must suddenly learn how to function within a country and a society not his own.

"To be included," stated Mr. Kleiner, "in an austere number of 50 anything is gratifying, but to have the adjective, “great,” between “50” and “Writers” was overwhelming. Being included in 50 Great Writers, to go along with the first place in the 2009 Beach Book Festival and the Honorable Mentions in other Book Festivals for my first book, was validation of my writing ability beyond sports writing. Knowing the work that went into paring the list from hundreds to the 50, and to have colleague and friend, Lois W. Stern, both of us from Infinity Publishing, make that 50 was special. 'Beyond the Cold' percolated for years waiting to see publication. I knew I had a good story to tell. What a journey from the six-year old who first picked up a pencil and realized it could do wonderful things.”

There are many books about people “adopting” another country not their own. Most are written by adults who visit those countries and come to love them. But what was it like for a child to spend a year in another country, thousands of miles away from relatives and friends, familiar activities, and suddenly be in a school and environment where there was a different language, culture, sports and customs?

In 'Beyond the Cold: An American’s Warm Portrait of Norway', we find out. As an 11-year old, Michael Kleiner spent 1969-70 in Norway with his family, attended a Norwegian school, learned Norwegian, the country’s culture, new sports and enjoyed unique experiences. He would not return to Norway until 1986 as an adult. During that and subsequent trips, Michael’s affection, passion and appreciation for the country, its social system, and a culture not his own grew. The book is written with warmth, sensitivity, humor, caring, and insight, showing how Norway and the people’s characteristics influenced him. Michael discovered the value of multicultural experience, and a “second home” in Norway -- a country that is more than cold weather. It also impacted his life and work back in the United States.

Kleiner has won numerous awards for 'Beyond The Cold' including First prize, Autobiography/Biography category, 2009 Beach Book Festival, Honorable Mention, Autobiography/Biography category, 2009 Nashville Book Festival, Honorable Mention, Autobiography/Biography category, 2009 New England Book Festival, Honorable Mention, Autobiography/Biography category, 2009 London Book Festival, Honorable Mention, Autobiography/Biography category, 2009 Do It Yourself Book Festival and Honorable Mention, Autobiography/Biography category, 2009 Los Angeles Book Festival.

Michael Kleiner, who operates his own public relations and web site design business in Philadelphia, is available for interview and can be contacted using the information below. ‘Beyond The Cold' is available at www.BeyondTheCold.com, Infinity Publishing, www.BuyBooksOnTheWeb.com, most online booksellers and from Vestserheim Norwegian American Museum. An ebook version is also available. '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading' is available at The Authors Show web site at www.TheAuthorsShow.com.

Sandra Bell Kirchman, Author of 'Witchcanery', Chosen For '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'

Sandra Bell Kirchman, author of 'Witchcanery', has been chosen to be included in '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading'. Kirchman was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors who appeared on The Authors Show last year. 'Witchcanery' is a fast paced, engaging fantasy fiction novel that has garnered rave reviews

Author Sandra Bell Kirchman has been chosen to be included in '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading', produced by The Authors Show for her first fantasy fiction novel, 'Witchcanery'.

"I am very happy," stated Ms. Kirchman, 'to be included in the book '50 Great Writers You Should Be Reading.' It’s too bad you can’t see my grin from ear to ear. I am delighted, because it’s a way of putting me and my book on a higher level of profile. When you consider how hard it is to get promoted in today’s publishing world, it is a great honor to be part of a book such as '50 Great Writers...'

'Witchcanery' spins the tale of Shelley Kesinkowsky who, at the age of 312 is a relatively young, modern-day witch. And she has internet access. Nowadays, when she gets messages from witch headquarters, it comes via email, much neater than the old method of being dropped on the doorstep by a raven. However, on the day that Shelley is deeply depressed by the anniversary of her beloved adopted son Brad's death, she is roused out of her blues by not one, not two, but three emails, only one of which is junk mail. The other two are from the powers that be in her life--the Witches' Sabben and the Grand Council of Wizards, and each of these powerful bodies want her to do something different. The Sabben wants Shelley to close up shop in Iowa and move to Montana for some environmental applications.

At the same time, apparently, Planet Earth is in deep trouble from the golem legionnaires of Mother Earth herself, who has blown her top over the sloppy environmental practices of Earth's humans. Thus, Shelley's special golem-creating ability becomes a high-ticket commodity. The Grand Council of Wizards orders Shelley to build a special golem that will mysteriously keep Earth alive, at least until they can think up an alternative plan. Shelley opts to follow the all-powerful Grand Council's orders. As if that's not enough for her to deal with, the Council teams Shelley up with her wizardly nemesis, Jason. Unknown to the young witch, however, is the deadly card the wizard has up his sleeve, should Shelley's golem fail the task.

"I am grateful," continued Ms. Kirchman, "to Danielle Hampson, Don McCauley and the staff at The Authors Show. Great and caring people very often produce great and caring products. This book is one of those."
